UW Student Transported to Detox, Intubated with .32 BAC

A UW-Madison student is lucky to be alive after he was found passed out early Saturday morning at his residence hall.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, UW-Madison Police responded to Sullivan Hall after a house fellow had found a 19-year old male unconscious in his room. The student was transported to a local hospital, where he was intubated because of the amount of alcohol he consumed. It was determined the student’s BAC was .32. In addition to the cost of a trip to detox, the student was also issued an Underage Alcohol citation.

Two hours prior, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday evening, UWPD transported an 18-year old female student to detox, after she was found passed out in Sellery Hall. Her BAC was .29. The student was also issued an Underage Alcohol citation.

The above two detox conveyances were two of the six total over the weekend (Friday-Sunday). In addition, 19 people were issued Underage Alcohol citations this past weekend.

Students are reminded if they choose to drink alcohol, they should do so legally and responsibly. The UW-Madison Police Department remains deeply concerned about the intoxication levels seen in the last year — levels that could be deadly.
