It’s June, which means its PRIDE month! In this article, you will hear about some things that are going on at UWPD as well as some upcoming events that are occurring in celebration of Pride month.
What’s going on at UWPD?
To help celebrate Pride this month, you will see UWPD officers proudly wearing and displaying a rainbow ribbon on their uniforms in support of the LGBTQ+ community. It has been an exciting year at UWPD as we continue to reach higher in building a stronger relationship with our LGBTQ+ community. This year we formed UWPD’s first “Pride Team” which is made up of UWPD officers and employees who are members or allies of the LGBTQ+ community. The team tackles everything from internal training and support for employees, to analyzing UWPD policies through an LGBTQ+ lens, and attending community meetings. Our goal with UWPD Pride Team is that it will be at the forefront of building trust and mending relationships with our community members, in hopes to provide a safer, happier, and more cohesive place to live, work, and play.
Upcoming events: Get Out and Celebrate!
Milwaukee Brewers Pride Night, June 21st at 7:10pm – Miller Park
For the first time in history, the Milwaukee Brewers will be hosting its first Pride Night game on June 21st, 2018 at 7:10 p.m. against the St. Louis Cardinals! The Brewers stated they are honored to host a special night at the ballpark celebrating diversity and inclusion. Fans who purchase a special Pride Night ticket package will receive a Brewers Pride Night T-shirt, featuring the rainbow design of the Pride flag inside the Ball & Glove logo. This will be a fun event — and even if you are not a baseball fan, it will be a night to celebrate and one for the history books! Tickets start at $20.
Madison’s Pride Parade
UWPD participated in Madison’s Pride Parade last year for the first time. It was an amazing event that provided us a great opportunity to interact with our community and have an open dialogue with the community members. While June is national Pride month, Madison’s Pride Parade this year will be on August 19th, 2018 and we are looking forward to participating in it again this year!
