Severe Weather Awareness Week and Statewide Tornado Drill

This week — April 9-13, 2018 — is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. It’s a great time to review your office’s and family’s plan in the event severe weather strikes.

In addition to preparedness and education this week, the State of Wisconsin is also conducting a statewide tornado drill on Thursday, April 12. A mock tornado WATCH will be issued April 12 at 1 p.m., followed by a statewide mock tornado WARNING at 1:45 p.m. Radio and TV stations across the state will also issue the test tornado warning. In addition, mock alerts will be issued on NOAA Weather Radios and many communities will sound their tornado sirens.

A mock tornado warning will also be issued at 6:45 p.m. — this gives families and second-shift workers a chance to practice their emergency plans.

The tornado drill will take place even if the skies are cloudy or if it’s or raining. If actual severe storms are expected in the state on Thursday, April 12, the tornado drills will be postponed until Friday, April 13 at the same times. If severe storms are possible Friday, the drills will be canceled.
