Disturbance Outside H.C. White Hall/College Library

On Monday, April 17, 2017 at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Dane County Communications Center received a 911 call from an individual who reported an altercation involving a knife occurring near College Library/H.C. White Hall. UW-Madison Police officers responded immediately and were not able to locate an active disturbance or a victim(s). Witnesses on the scene reiterated to UWPD officers that an altercation had broken out between two men and a woman, and were able to provide a description of one of the men whom they observed had displayed a knife during the altercation. A WiscAlert was sent to warn campus about the possible threat.
After quickly reviewing security cameras in the area, officers confirmed witness accounts and UWPD sent a second WiscAlert along with a photo of the armed suspect to further warn the campus community of the potential danger.
Security footage eventually indicated all parties involved fled the scene shortly after the disturbance broke out. Upon ascertaining that no further threat existed, a third WiscAlert was issued at approximately 8:30 p.m. to give the all-clear to campus.
At this point, no victim(s) have come forward to report a crime. The incident remains under investigation.
