UWPD Investigating Strong Armed Robbery

At approximately 9:30 PM on Monday, April 3, a strong armed robbery was reported to have occurred outside Elizabeth Waters Residence Hall. The victim and at least one suspect are known to each other. The victim reported that he was wrestled to the ground by two suspects and his backpack was stolen. The suspects then fled the area. At this time, it is not believed that the suspects are affiliated with UW-Madison.

The UW-Madison Police Department is actively investigating this case. Anyone with information is urged to contact UWPD at (608) 264-COPS.

Nothing is failsafe, but here are some crime prevention suggestions everyone should consider:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Walk in a group using a well-lit route, if possible.
  • Call 911 if you observe something that you feel is dangerous.
  • If you feel you may be unsafe walking at night, walk with a group or call for a ride and wait somewhere you feel safe.
  • If you’re ever confronted by an individual demanding your property, give up your property without resistance.
