UPDATE – UWPD Investigating First-Degree Intentional Homicide

UPDATE 9/29/2025 – 10:15 a.m.: On 9/25/2025, the UW-Madison Police Department was notified that the victim passed away on September 25 from the injuries sustained during the attack.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim at the direction of the family.

UWPD has continued its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case. The suspect, Keith A Jones, remains in custody at the Dane County Jail on a hold from the Department of Corrections. In consultation with the Dane County District Attorney’s Office, UWPD is recommending the charges be amended to first-degree intentional homicide for Keith A Jones.

There remains no threat to the campus.


UPDATE 9/20/25 – 5:50 p.m.: Earlier this afternoon, Mr. Jones was taken into police custody without incident. Jones was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, robbery, and a probation violation.


The UW-Madison Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred on the morning of September 20, at approximately 2 a.m. It occurred at 15 Breese Terrace in the parking lot adjacent to Camp Randall Stadium. The victim sustained critical injuries in the violent, unprovoked attack and was transported to an area hospital. It appears to be a targeted incident. The suspect is Keith A. Jones. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Jones may be in possession of a BEST security uniform and radio.

Jones fled the scene and remains at large.

Description: male, black, 5’7″, 185lb, black hair, brown eyes – last seen wearing black shorts, a black hoodie, black shoes, long dark socks, and a lighter colored hat.

The individual may be dangerous. For your safety, do not approach the suspect if you see them. Instead, call 911 immediately. We are asking for the community’s assistance in locating the suspect. If you have any information that may help, please contact 608-264-2677.
