On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at approximately 1:55 p.m., UW–Madison Police Department officers responded to the intersection of West Johnson Street and East Campus Mall for a report of an individual who had made threats toward another person near a bus stop. Officers responded quickly and took the suspect into custody without incident.

During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect and the victim had been riding the bus and had exited at the same stop. A verbal altercation occurred near the bus stop, during which the suspect displayed a firearm he was carrying and made verbal threats. As officers were responding, the suspect discarded the firearm into a nearby trash can — it was quickly recovered by UWPD.

The suspect was identified as Marcus Morgan, 46, of Madison. He was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of disorderly conduct while armed, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting or obstructing an officer. He is not affiliated with UW–Madison.

Due to the rapid response of UWPD officers and dispatchers, the situation was resolved quickly, and a campus-wide WiscAlert was not issued.
