Madison Man Arrested Following Off-Campus Knife Incident

The actions of an off-duty UW-Madison Police Department officer led to the arrest of a suspect responsible for an off-campus weapons offense on Langdon Street.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 11:55 p.m., UWPD issued an Off-Campus Emergency Alert about a man with a knife on Langdon Street. The suspect fled the scene and could not be immediately located.
Shortly after 2:00 a.m., a UWPD officer heading home from his shift spotted the suspect, Rudy Garcia, 31, of Madison, on Monroe Street near Randall Avenue. The officer relayed the information to officers, and Garcia was taken into custody by UWPD.
During a search of the suspect, officers located the knife from the earlier incident, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Garcia, who also had an active felony warrant, was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of felony bail jumping, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Madison Police Department is expected to add additional charges related to the Langdon Street weapons offense that occurred earlier in the evening.
