UWPD Accreditation

The UW-Madison Police Department is proud to maintain accreditation through three separate bodies — the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG), the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). We remain the only triply accredited police department in the State of Wisconsin.

UWPD was first accredited by CALEA in 2011 — however, it has maintained triple accreditation status with all three agencies since 2012. To achieve accreditation, UWPD is required to meet specific professional standards and submit to ongoing reviews administered by each independent accreditation organization. As part of each accreditation process, UWPD must comply with hundreds of standards.

Accreditation requires our department to maintain a system of professional practices in the areas of administration, crime prevention, investigations, property and evidence control, and more. In short, accreditation ensures we remain the best of the best.

CALEA Accreditation Feedback

UWPD is currently seeking re-accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Anyone wishing to provide comments regarding our agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status, may provide comments to CALEA through the Public Comment Portal through the link below.

IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes.  Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA Accreditation.
