  • Case number: 19-02308
  • Incident date: December 12, 2019, 12:00 am
  • Incident type: Battery
  • Location/address: Vilas Hall

On Thursday, December 12, 2019, UWPD responded to Vilas Hall for a report of a man sleeping in a 4th floor hallway. Officers made contact with the man, who is not affiliated with the UW, and noticed he was intoxicated and had blood on his face. He reported to officers that he had been sleeping when an unknown person approached him and struck him in the face several times. The alleged incident occurred sometime between 5:00 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. (when officers made contact with the victim). The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, the man’s story changed several times – after several days of investigating, checking security cameras, and interviewing the suspect again, it’s unclear what exactly happened and where the alleged incident occurred. As a precaution, UWPD issued a Crime Warning message to all of campus on Monday, December 16 to alert our community about the alleged incident.

The UW-Madison Police Department is actively investigating this case. Anyone with information is urged to contact UWPD at (608) 264-COPS.
