Fitchburg Man Arrested Following Traffic Crash, Fleeing, Hit and Run

The UW–Madison Police Department has arrested a Fitchburg man following a traffic stop in which he fled the scene and later crashed his vehicle.
On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., UWPD officers stopped Jason P. O’Neal, 35, for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. During the traffic stop, O’Neal took off in his vehicle and crashed at Campus Drive and Babcock Drive. He then fled on foot.
Officers chased O’Neal on foot and eventually took him into custody approximately two blocks from the crash scene. While he was being arrested, O’Neal was uncooperative, resisted arrest, and threatened officers and their families.
O’Neal was booked into the Dane County Jail on the following tentative charges:
- – 1st Degree Reckless Endangerment (felony)
- – Fleeing/Eluding an Officer (felony)
- – Battery/Threats to Law Enforcement (felony)
- – Operating while Intoxicated – 3rd offense
- – Operating after Revocation
- – Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device
- – Resisting Arrest
- – Probation Violation
O’Neal was also issued citations for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, open intoxicants, and hit and run. O’Neal is not affiliated with UW–Madison.
