Madison Man Arrested Following Knife Incident

On Friday, May 10, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., UWPD officers responded to Lakeshore Path near the Memorial Union for a report of a person who had threatened a group with a knife. The group of five told officers the suspect, later identified as Rudy A. Garcia, 29, Madison, brandished a knife as they walked past him. Garcia then followed the group and pointed the knife toward them. The group ran and called police.

As UWPD officers arrived, they immediately located Garcia based on the suspect description the group provided to dispatchers. Garcia was arrested without incident. Officers confiscated a box cutter from Garcia.

Garcia was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Garcia is not affiliated with UW-Madison.
