Madison Man Arrested on Drug, Weapons Charges

The UW-Madison Police Department has arrested a Madison man on several drugs and weapons charges following a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
On Sunday, June 23, 2024, at approximately 1:45 a.m., UWPD officers stopped a vehicle on Langdon Street after noting the license plate was registered to a different vehicle. When officers contacted the driver, Jaylen M. Smith, 19, Madison, they could clearly smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officers also saw what appeared to be marijuana inside the car.
A search of the vehicle revealed additional marijuana, several individually packaged baggies of cocaine, various drug paraphernalia, and a loaded AR-15.
Smith, who is not affiliated with UW-Madison, was arrested and booked into the Dane County Jail on the following tentative charges:
- Possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Bail jumping
Smith also received an unauthorized vehicle registration plate citation.
