- Case number: 17-00249
- Incident date: February 11, 2017, 5:45 pm
- Incident type: Disturbance
- Location/address: Near Slichter Residence Hall
On Saturday, February 11 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the UW-Madison Police Department responded to a call for help just outside Slichter Residence Hall. The caller stated a male subject, later identified as Isaac M. Ziegler, 18, of Marshall, was creating a disturbance – grabbing and physically attacking pedestrians in the area.
Officers responded and located Ziegler outside the residence hall. The officers attempted to detain and question him – he resisted and charged at the officers, and then ran away.
Ziegler was eventually detained near the Lakeshore Path after a struggle with officers – for their protection, and the protection of others, officers were forced to Taser him. Ziegler was evaluated at a local hospital and was later booked into the Dane County Jail. Based on his manic behavior and witness accounts, it’s believed Ziegler was under the influence of drugs.
Two UWPD officers were injured in the incident – both were treated and released at a local hospital for minor injuries. Both returned to duty later in the evening.
Isaac Ziegler faces charges of resisting arrest and causing injury to police officers (two counts), disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana.
