Multiple Individuals Detained at UW-Madison Event / Vehicle Incident on Library Mall Arrest

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at approximately 7:20 PM, the UW-Madison Police Department responded to the Memorial Union on the UW-Madison campus for multiple individuals disrupting a planned, authorized, and ticketed public event.
Several individuals were contacted by event organizers and provided multiple warnings before the disruptive behavior was determined to be unlawful.
UWPD officers escorted the disrupting individuals out of the event and detained three people. The detainees were ultimately released and the investigation into their behavior and any possible enforcement action is ongoing. None of the detainees are affiliated with UW-Madison.
At the same time, multiple, authorized, pre-planned events on Library Mall were also occurring.
Coincidentally and unrelated to the incident at the Memorial Union, an unauthorized vehicle drove onto Library Mall, creating a disturbance. As a result of the investigation into this incident, the driver of this vehicle was identified as:
- David J. Volm, 31, of Stevens Point, WI
Volm was booked into the Dane County Jail by UWPD on charges of misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, and was also cited for multiple traffic violations.
No injuries were reported to police during either incident.
