UWPD Investigating String of E-Bike and E-Scooter Thefts

The UW-Madison Police Department is actively investigating a string of e-bike and e-scooter thefts on campus. Over the last 11 days – January 30 through February 10 – UWPD has received five reports. The locations of the thefts vary and include:

  • Helen C White, Lot 6
  • Lowell Center
  • Memorial Union
  • Waters Residence Hall
  • Witte Residence Hall

Thefts are never the fault of the victim. Please consider the following to potentially prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future:

  • Purchase an anti-theft device or a heavy-duty lock for your bike or scooter
  • Consider parking in a garage or other secure area
  • Park in visible, well-lit areas
  • Record serial numbers and take photos of your bike and/or scooter.
  • Be sure to IMMEDIATELY report a theft to UWPD. Time is of the essence.
