UWPD Investigating String of E-Bike and E-Scooter Thefts

The UW-Madison Police Department is actively investigating a string of e-bike and e-scooter thefts on campus. From August 28 through September 13, 2025, UWPD has received five reports of stolen bicycles and scooters. The locations of the thefts vary and include:
- Union South
- Lowell Center
- Nicholas Recreation Center
- Ogg Residence Hall
Thefts are never the fault of the victim. Please consider the following to potentially prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future:
- Purchase an anti-theft device or a heavy-duty lock for your bike or scooter and always lock up your bike or scooter, even for short durations
- Consider parking in a garage or other secure area
- Park in visible, well-lit areas
- Record serial numbers and take photos of your bike and/or scooter.
- Be sure to IMMEDIATELY report a theft to UWPD. Time is of the essence.
