Arrests Made by UWPD After Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins on Campus

Over the last two weeks, the UW-Madison Police Department has been investigating multiple reports of thefts from vehicles on campus. In each of these incidents, suspects entered unlocked vehicles in the campus area and stole electronics, cash, and credit cards, and other personal belongings.

During the investigation, UWPD Detectives and Officers identified one of the suspects as Travon M. Pearson, 20, of Madison, WI. On Thursday, August 15th, 2019, Pearson was located by UWPD officers off-campus – in the 500 block of East Washington Avenue in the City of Madison – and was taken into custody. As the investigation continued, two additional suspects, Mario D. Chandler, 19, of Madison, WI, and a juvenile male, were also taken into custody on charges related to the thefts.

A handgun and multiple items of stolen property were recovered from the suspects and their vehicle.

Travon M. Pearson was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of theft x 2, misappropriation of ID, felon in possession of firearm, and bail jumping.

Mario D. Chandler was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of theft – party to a crime, possession of marijuana, and misappropriation of ID.

The juvenile male was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of theft – party to a crime and bail jumping.

None of the suspects are affiliated with UW-Madison.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available for release at this time.
